If you are as passionate about music as I am, then you probably enjoy going to the occasional concert. There’s something unique and special about seeing songs that you love performed live that simply can’t be replaced with a recording or just listening to a band’s studio album.
While attending concerts is usually an awesome experience, there are still certain etiquette rules that need to be followed. Don’t be that person that everyone complains about after the show.
Now, it is important to remember that how you act at concerts will depend on the venue, the type of music, and the other members of the crowd.
Here in Arizona, a good number of the venues are general admission standing room only. When this is the case, there are several things you as a concertgoer need to remember.
You aren’t getting any closer to the stage, so why are you pushing the people in front of you? It is impossible to enjoy the music onstage if you are being squished up against the people around you. Calm down and just listen to the music. Trust me, your life will not be over if you don’t get to touch the lead singer’s hand during the set.
DON’T Scream Obnoxiously.
Girls, I’m looking at you. We get it. You love the band. That’s great, but we all love them. That’s why we’re at the show. Cheering is great, however, there’s no need to voice your love so shrilly. When the band is being drowned out by your incessant shrieking, that really puts a damper on everyone else’s fun.
DO Dance (Within Reason).
This is the fun part of a show. Dancing is accepted and encouraged at concerts because it’s just too much fun to not rock out. Important Tip: Be respectful of others while dancing. Don’t flail excessively, avoid stepping on other people’s feet as much as possible, and exercise restraint when the crowd is really packed. And never forget to have a great time.
Most importantly, do your best to have fun at every concert you attend. Music is awesome and is meant to be appreciated in a live setting, so just go and rock out.
These are just a few basic tips on concert etiquette that I’ve compiled. If you’re looking for more detail, check out this fantastic comprehensive article about how to behave at a show. No doubt there will be a followup post to this one with etiquette rules that are venue-specific to Arizona’s most popular concert venues.
Rock on, my friends.
